KICSMUN

Model UN at KICS

KICSMUN is proud to have completed its 14th conference at KICS in October 2019 under the student leadership of Mohamed Magdi Taha with the theme of “The Pursuit of Freedom, Peace and Justice” in honor of the Sudanese revolution. Almost 200 students from around Khartoum debated various issues and came to resolution on several of them.

KICSMUN is a long-standing tradition at KICS and has grown from under 12 students participating to almost 200 participants from KICS and local surrounding schools in Khartoum. It is the largest high school conference in Sudan.

MUN is open to students in Years 9 and above. Younger KICS students are also allowed to join as part of the Admin staff. In 2018 we inaugurated the Mini-MUN ECA dedicated to introducing MUN, the UN and debate to students in Years 7-9.

Our next conference will be held at KICS on 10-13 November 2020. We look forward to your participation!

KICSMUN XIV-The Pursuit of Freedom, Peace and Justice

Greetings all,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 14th annual KICS Model United Nations conference, in honor of both the 15th anniversary of our prestigious institution and the 2019 Sudanese Revolution.

The theme for this year’s KICSMUN conference is one that illustrates the need for social reform: ‘The Pursuit of Freedom, Peace and Justice’. These three words not only exemplify the forefront of our revolution but serve as a soul-stirring reference for the upcoming generation of Sudanese youth. They will forever act as a testament to what can be achieved when people chose to arm themselves only with words and stay true in their advocation of peace, even in the face of massacre. This year’s theme is personal to say the least, but it is for that very reason why I believe it will empower students to always and indefinitely voice their opinions, thoughts, and concerns. It is my hope that everyone participating in KICSMUN XIV will embrace the theme’s significance and strive to become revolutionary towards any difficulty they might encounter. The Sudanese Revolution transcends a change in government. It is the epitome of social unity in its most literal form. It is a lesson portraying the importance of speaking up, one that I vow to forever uphold.

MUN is an experience, and I look forward to sharing it with all of you.

Sincerely,

Mohammed Magdi Taha

Secretary-General

KICSMUN XIV

From the Deputy Secretaries-General

The Pursuit of Freedom, Peace and Justice. This theme does not only reflect the ambitions and accomplishments of the Sudanese revolution, but the mission of the United Nations as a whole. Being Sudanese and having gone through the change that has led to the formation of a ‘New Sudan’, the theme of this year’s conference is very dear to my heart. It is one that not only celebrates our achievements as a country but celebrates and inspires the successful voice and peaceful protest of our generation; the future of our countries and the world. Model United Nations is a programme that effectively develops a student’s confidence, public speaking and debating skills. It allows for us to create and develop ideas and solutions to real world problems and familiarize ourselves with diplomacy and negotiation. With that being said, Model United Nations renders the perfect opportunity for us, the future, to gain experience in pursuing Hurriya, Salam wa Aadalla: Freedom, Peace and Justice.

KICSMUN XIV

My name is Layyal Osman and I am this year’s KICSMUN Deputy Secretary-General. MUN has always played a large role in my life and it has cultivated my leadership skills and developed my confidence; these are traits that I hope to instill into all of this year’s KICSMUN delegates.

For Sudan, this year is a momentous one, with the overthrow of a 30-year dictatorship under our wing. In context of the struggles that the Sudanese people have faced in the past year, the theme of the pursuit of freedom, peace and Justice could not be more fitted. The delegates can explore examples of corruption and injustice and find ways to rectify them after surviving and seeing it happen in front of them with our revolution.

I loved participating in this year’s conference and working closely with my amazing secretariat in preparation for our 14th annual conference. I’m so excited to share all our hard work with you and for you to experience a fraction of the excitement that I feel when I see my colleagues and our delegates in action.

From the Chief of Staff

The future is in the hands of our youth but we must give them the building blocks to be able to build that future. The Model United Nations allows for students to obtain a wilder understand of the issues of the world around them, leaving them with skills of public speaking and global understanding that they would not otherwise have. Our theme of “The Pursuit of Freedom, Peace and Justice” inspired by the infamous “Hurriya, Salam o Aadala” of the Sudanese Revolution, not only home for us all being a part of the Sudanese community, but helps fuel the energy for the conference. We, as KICSMUN XIV thrive to live by those three words.

In our 14th year of KICSMUN, we invited Holm English Medium School, Unity High School, Khartoum American School, Sudan International Grammar School and Ivory Private School to join our conference. The KICSMUN team’s goal is to become the heart of MUN in Khartoum and hopefully in the future North Africa, by incorporating more schools from the local and international arenas.

KICSMUN delegates have also participated in international conferences such as Cairo American College MUN (CACMUN) and The Hague International MUN (THIMUN), MUN in Amman, Jordan (AMMUN) and hopefully this year, St. Petersburg International Model United Nations in Russia (SPIMUN); and their experiences have strengthened their resolve and debating skills.

We are proud to be participating in THIMUN 2020 this year as the Delegation of Niger.
