In 2000, we headed off to Jakarta, Indonesia, remaining there for 15 years, allowing our children to graduate from JIS and successfully complete the IB Diploma. I have been teaching IB Biology since
1995, I am an assistant examiner, senior moderator for Internal Assessment and IB workshop leader. I have been part of and involved with KICS since the very beginning when plans to build an IB school were still on the drawing board. I have been in Sudan since 1984 when the Netherlands Foreign Service posted me at its Embassy here. I met my Italian/Greek husband in Khartoum. We have 2 wonderful boys – young men now! – who grew up in Khartoum and graduated from KICS with the IB Diploma in their pockets. In fact, my older son was in the very first cohort to graduate. The first years of the KICS story were very exciting and they both look back with many fond memories to their time at KICS. I have seen it grow from a construction site to a beautiful campus with many facilities and am proud to be part of its history. I love the school and my work here. As Office Manager of the Secondary Section, I have a very busy job. There is never a dull moment for sure! Outside of school I run exercise classes, offering Yogalates and Step classes.

My main passion in the English classroom is exploring the great ideas and problems of the human experience in discussion and debate. I love to hear young people find their own voice and I take great joy in supporting them on their journey to explore their passions. I am originally from Ontario, Canada, but my university studies in philosophy and literature took me to study in Belgium and meet my wife who is also working at KICS. We are joining KICS after establishing our teaching careers and raising our family in Auckland, New Zealand. Beyond the classroom I enjoy football/soccer, outdoors adventures, running, reading, cooking, and exploring with my three sons.

My name is Kristine Dietrich, an English, History and ESL instructor from northern Michigan, United States. I will warn you that Michiganders are quite spontaneous because our weather changes dramatically even within a single day and we seem to behind every conversation with a topic regarding weather. These days I am best distracted by watching my son play soccer, yoga stretching with friends, or riding my bicycle aimlessly along Lake Michigan. However, there is so much to do that I will not likely turn down an invitation to play tennis, sail, swim or ride.
I hold a Bachelors of Arts from Grand Valley State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Easter Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development from the University of Detroit.
My studies, travel and/or teaching outside of the United States have been in Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, France and the Netherlands. I feel fortunate and come to KICS with the mindset of continuing that scholarship, exploration and camaraderie.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you. I am a DP Chemistry teacher and a practitioner of the flipped classroom. Prior to teaching I was managing offices, and while I did well in that profession, I somehow found my calling in teaching. From the Philippines, we moved to Bangladesh, and now to an entirely new continent! Having worked in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries before, I found it easy to make natural soaps and cosmetic products when I found the need to switch (from commercial products) for my family's well-being. I also do sewing crafts, as well as walking/running to keep myself fit. My family and I are all thrilled to be given the opportunity to live in the wonderful country - Sudan.

Greetings. I am originally from the United States, grew up outside the city of Chicago, Illinois and have lived in Colorado for the past 12 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science and Masters in Secondary Education. I grew up where I loved to question everything that was going around me and was always eager to learn about something new. My favorite thing about teaching is that you never stop being a student, there is always something new to learn. After teaching for 12 years in Colorado, my family (my wife Meredith, Counselor at KICS, and daughter, age 2), has decided to take the leap to teaching abroad. My personal interests include spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities, doing puzzles, and playing board games. I am honored and excited for the adventures that await me here in Sudan and look forward to working with the wonderful students, families, staff, and community at KICS.

Over 16 years ago, right after graduating with a BA in Mathematics and English Language and Literature in Hungary, I found myself on a plane headed for New York City, where I started my teaching career in Secondary Mathematics. After teaching in the Big Apple for 3 years, I headed to a warmer climate, first to the Philippines (2 years) and then to China (11 years), to teach MYP and DP Mathematics. During those years I became a DP Mathematics examiner, earned my M.Ed., gained leadership experience in various positions, and launched HighFour Competitions to run online competitions for schools worldwide. My family and I are all excited to join the KICS community and start exploring everything this beautiful city and country has to offer.

For over the past 15 years I have taught AP world history, economic, political science, sociology and IB Geography in California and the Philippines. My wife, Perchie, and I will be leaving behind the white sand beaches and warm smiles of the Philippines in exchange for some exciting new experiences in Sudan. My name is Scott Kwiecien and I am excited to be teaching DP Economics and Humanities at KICS. Growing up in Canada, I obtained two undergrad degrees: in religious education and civil aviation. After working in non-profit organizations focused on children and teens, I then decided to change careers. This meant a return to school for a master’s in education in which then our family left Canada to start our overseas adventure. Our first place was South Korea teaching humanities as well as religious studies. Next we moved to Jakarta Indonesia, where we spent the last 7 years. This allowed my daughters to obtain their IB Diplomas and return to Canada to further their studies. During my time in Indonesia, I became an IB DP teacher of Business Management and Economics as well as becoming an examiner. At present I am pursuing a second master’s degree in IB teaching and learning. For hobbies, I enjoy golfing, anything aviation related as well as reading leadership books.

My name is Reem Agil. I am originally Nubian (Sudanese) but grew up in the U.S. (Virginia). I've always been an adventurer so I pursued my higher education in the UK to broaden my horizons and be more worldly. My BA is in Business Administration and earned an Open University degree as well, continued on for an MBA with a concentration in finance, certified as a Project Manager, and now a PGCEi certified teacher. I have worked many years within the non-profit sector but then took an unforeseeable detour by filling in for a TA in the primary section. I then worked my way up to the secondary section as an intern. This year, I will embark on another new adventure - teaching IGSCE Business Studies & IB Business Management as part of the Humanities team. I'm honored to be a part of your son/daughter's academic career at KICS. On a personal note - chocolate and sports make me happy.

After a career in business and marketing in Paris, I relocated to the Sultanate of Oman to run an adventure tourism company. Having developed numerous adventurous and educational ‘Week Without Walls’ excursions in Oman for international schools worldwide, I was inspired to take on a new challenge and qualify as a professional school teacher.
I moved with my husband to Ethiopia, where I obtained an iPGCE from Nottingham University in the UK. Since then I have been teaching French as a foreign language and GILA (Global Issues Local Action). I believe in the importance of developing strong relationships with students to enable them to thrive in today's challenging educational environments.

My name is Mark Jolley and I am a Sport and Exercise Sciences graduate from Cardiff Metropolitan and Exeter Universities, in the UK. I am extremely excited to be here in Sudan joining the KICS adventure at this historic period. I am passionate and have extensive experience of developing physical educational programs; I will bring all my heart, effort and goodwill to this task.
I graduated from two of the most prestigious universities in the UK, however, it has been my global experiences and the opportunities to work with highly talented professionals from around the globe - including schools in Africa, Asia, Arabia and the UK - that inspires me to be the best practitioner I can be. I love the twofold nature of being a physical education practitioner - on the one hand, I am an educator, encouraging students to support each other’s learning, as students explore together, focus and inquire deeply into curriculum content; after school I don the cap of coach: motivating students to go the extra mile, to commit, to support each other and strive as individuals and as teams, in the demanding environment of competitive sport.
In our free time, my wife and I love good food, good company, music, culture and nature; hiking, exploring, mountain biking and learning to ride horses! We look forward to experiencing the rich and welcoming Sudanese culture first-hand, in the famous city of Khartoum.

This year both the girl’s and boy’s teams won first place in the state of Minnesota. My teaching and coaching experiences includes developing athletes at all levels.
