When does the school year begin and end?

The school year runs from August to the end of May.

Which Year Group will my child be placed in?

Children at KICS are placed in the year group appropriate for their age at the start of the academic year.

Age 3 at the start of the academic year.

Reception

Age 4 at the start of the academic year.

Year 1

What curriculum is taught at KICS?

KICS is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Authorised School. It has been a IB PYP Authorised school since 2007.

How long is the school day?

The school day begins at 7:45 am to 7:50 am. Little KICS and Reception finish school at 1.00 pm. Years 1 through 6 finish at 2.25 to 2:30 pm. The school week starts on Sunday and finishes on Thursday.

What is the teacher to student ratio?

The maximum class size in the primary school is 20 students. The overall student to teacher ratio is less than 1:10*. Early Years class sizes are 18 students and Lower Primary classes  have Teaching Assistants in each class. There is also a Teaching Assistant assigned to each year group in Years 3-6.

What languages are taught?

The medium of instruction is English at KICS. Students are also taught Arabic in differentiated classes from Year 1 to Year 6.
 
What special assistance is available to students?

The Student Support Service Team at KICS offers EAL (English as an Additional Language) and LS Learning Support. KICS also employs a qualified nurse who can assist children with any health related issues and a School Guidance Counsellor.

What specialist instruction is provided in the Primary School?

KICS employs Primary Specialist Teachers for Music (for LK-Year 6), Physical Education (for Reception to Year 6), Art (for Year 1-6) and Arabic (for Year 1-6).

When should students apply?

KICS observes rolling admission. If space allows, children can join the school throughout the year.
 
What extra-curricular activities are available?

KICS offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs each semester for students in Years 1-6.
